Lower=20 Paxton assault may have been = because victim=20 was foreign-born, police say

Police = in Lower=20 Paxton Township say an assault Monday on a township man may have been = motivated=20 by the fact the man is foreign born. The incident happened around 9:30 = p.m. in=20 an alley between the 4600 block of Fritchie Street and the 4600 block of = Jonestown Road. Police said two men who had been hiding behind a = dumpster jumped=20 the man as he was walking in the alley and began punching him in the = face and=20 head.

The = man, whose=20 name has not been released because police fear he could suffer = retaliation for=20 reporting the attack, managed to get in a punch in self-defense against = one of=20 the attackers. He was later taken to a local hospital for treatment. = Police did=20 not release any information about the man's injuries or his=20 condition.

Police = said the=20 attack appears to have been random and was not a robbery. Nothing was = demanded=20 from the victim. The two attackers are described as a white male, about = 6-feet=20 tall with shoulder-length, dirty blonde hair and a black male = approximately=20 5-foot 5-inches tall who was wearing a green shirt.

Lower=20 Paxton Police Investigate Possible Hate Crime

Lower Paxton = Township, Pa.=20 - Lower Paxton Township Police said a
beating Monday night may have = been a=20 hate crime.

Police said the victim, whose name is not being = released,=20 was
attacked by two men around 9:30 p.m. while walking in an = alley
between=20 Jonestown Road and Fritchey Street.

Lt. Gary Seefeldt said the = two men=20 began punching the victim in the

Seefeldt said the attackers did not = demand=20 money, so he doesn't
believe the incident was an attempted = robbery.

He=20 said police are investigating the possibility this was a hate
crime = since the=20 victim appears to be of Middle Eastern descent.

"We don't = normally have=20 people just attacked by strangers here,"
Seefeldt said. "If it's an = isolated=20 incident, it's bad enough, but if
we're going to starting having this = - if=20 we've got two people running
around out there attacking people = because=20 they're not like them -
we've got a serious problem."

The = victim was=20 treated at a local hospital for his injuries.

Seefeldt said one = suspect=20 is described as a white male, about 6 feet
tall with shoulder-length = dirty=20 blonde hair, and the other a black
male about 5-foot-5-inches. = Seefeldt said=20 the victim believes he may
have been able to land a good punch during = the=20 attack. He said one of
the suspects may have a mark on his=20 face.
