NSW Premier Kristina Keneally doesn't support a proposal to ban women from wearing burqas in public, saying she wants a NSW which is "open and tolerant".
Christian Democratic Party MP Fred Nile on Tuesday introduced a bill to parliament seeking to ban the wearing of the burqa and other face veils in public.
"The community have made it quite clear that they want a public debate on the issue," he said on Tuesday.
