Maldives seeks German assistance to amend Sharia Law: Report
President Mohamed Nasheed has sought assistance from German government to amend 'Sharia law' enforced in the Maldives, a German newspaper has said.
Earth Times claimed on Monday that President Nasheed sought German scholars' expertise in Islamic law "to help consolidate the young democracy in the Maldives" after meeting German Chancellor Angela Merkel in Berlin on Thursday. "I have done my homework and I am quite aware of the amount of German discourse in Islamic jurisprudence," he said.
