Australia's largest Islamic school, Malek Fahd in Sydney's south-west, which may have to close in a fortnight if federal and state government funding is not reinstated.
The school has several campuses, including its largest one at Greenacre, and about 2,400 students.
The chairman of the school's board, Doctor John Bennett, said it had written to education authorities last week about the school's possible closure.
"The school is still solvent, but will not be able to operate as of term three unless the delayed funding from the Commonwealth and the suspended funding from the state is reinstated," Dr Bennett said.
