Aldermen renew call to add Chicago to a national campaign against Islamophobia
Chicago Aldermen renewed a call Monday to pass a measure condemning hate speech and violence against Muslims living in Chicago.
Alderman Scott Waguespack (32nd Ward) gathered with other advocates at City Hall up the pressure to pass the measure. The resolution, proposed by the City Council's Progressive Caucus would add Chicago to a national campaign against Islamophobia.
"Our goal today is to send a clear message to Chicagoans and all Americans: Your elected leaders stand strong with our Muslim neighbors. We will not tolerate Islamophobia, hate speech or violence in any form," Waguespack said.
