Curt Schilling suspended by ESPN after tweet about extremist Muslims, apologizes for 'bad decision'
by Dan Snierson
ESPN suspended Curt Schilling on Tuesday after the former All-Star pitcher, who is currently a baseball analyst for the network, posted a meme on Twitter that drew a comparison between extremist Muslims and Nazis.
The tweet, which was deleted by Schilling within minutes, contained a picture of Hitler that stated, "It's said only 5-10% of Muslims are extremists. In 1940, only 7% of Germans were Nazis. How'd that go?" Schilling also wrote: "The math is staggering when you get to true #'s."
"Curt's tweet was completely unacceptable, and in no way represents our company's perspective," said ESPN in a statement. "We made that point very strongly to Curt and have removed him from his current Little League assignment pending further consideration." Schilling also serves as an analyst for the network's Sunday Night Baseball.
