Phoenix police arrested a man Tuesday after a woman said he sexually assaulted her following an arranged marriage that her parents coordinated.
Police said Mohamed S. Abdullahi, 30, punched the woman in the eye, sexually assaulted her and barred the door of an apartment near 32nd and Van Buren streets late Monday night after her parents had taken the woman to Abdullahi earlier in the day.
The woman's parents arranged the marriage with Abdullahi and their daughter in November without her knowledge, according to court records. When the woman learned of the marriage, she fled the state but returned 15 days later to finish high school, police said.
