Hoover woman joins ISIS
The news of a 20-year old woman from Hoover moving to Syria to join the terrorist group, ISIS is sending shock waves through the community. The local Islamic group held a news conference Monday night about the extremist group.
A spokesman for the Council on American Islamic Relations answered questions about the young woman, named Hoda Muthana, including how she spent more than a year withdrawing from her congregation before tricking her family and leaving for Syria to join ISIS. The spokesman, Hassan Shibly, is also an attorney and he has been working with law enforcement to try to bring Hoda back to the US. He's also been working with her family.
Shibly said Hoda was in touch with the extremist group through social media outlets, like Twitter. Her account has since been suspended.
