Labour suspends four councillors who 'let down' Rotherham
Ed Miliband has suspended four current and former councillors in Rotherham in the wake of a scathing report into child sexual abuse in the town.
Labour yesterday suspended councillors Gwendoline Russell and Shaukat Ali, as the council's former leader Roger Stone and ex-deputy leader Jahangir Akhtar, pending an investigation.
Labour's ruling National Executive Committee (NEC) has taken control of a new "rigorous" procedure for selection of candidates to the local council in the South Yorkshire town, where a devastating report found as many as 1,400 children were groomed by gangs for abuse over the past 15 years.
