The courts may overturn the mayoral election result in Tower Hamlets after it was claimed illegal voting practices swung the result.
A group has submitted a petition to the High Court asking for a probe into the controversial win by Tower Hamlets First politician Lutfur Rahman. A senior judge could be appointed to investigate whether the election of Mr Rahman, who used to be a Labour Party member, is legitimate.
The legal move follows claims of voter intimidation, identity fraud and irregularities at vote counts after mayoral, council and European elections in the borough last month. A Tory councillor claimed officials were at the centre of "arguments and threats" by political activists.
