Cameron vows never to ban religious slaughter of animals
David Cameron has vowed never to ban the religious slaughter of animals for food despite growing calls to outlaw the practice.
On his first visit to Israel as Prime Minister, he strongly defended kosher food, days after the new leader of Britain's vets said the religious slaughter of animals should be banned if Muslims and Jews refuse to adopt more humane methods of killing.
Mr Cameron told Israeli MPs in the Knesset yesterday: "I've stood up to protect Jewish practices. The Jewish community has been an absolute exemplar in integrating into British life in every way, but integration doesn't mean that you have to give up things that you hold very dear in your religion.
