Renewed calls for religious slaughter to be banned ahead of Lords debate

The RSPCA has renewed calls for religious slaughter to be banned, as the House of Lords prepares to debate the subject on Thursday.
The law currently allows animals destined to become Kosher or Halal meat to be killed without being pre-stunned beforehand.
But scientific research has shown not using the practice can cause unnecessary suffering and distress.
