'Allowing university speakers to segregate genders is outrageous'
When one young woman was told to sit at the opposite side of the room to her boyfriend at a public university debate earlier this year, because the event was segregated between the sexes, she was hugely upset and called it "gender apartheid".
Her concerns were not irrational. Sitting on one side of a hall because of your gender feels, to me, not too far from sitting at the back of a bus because of your colour.
How can a modern Britain sit back and allow external speakers to dictate where young men and women sit in public debates, when those very students do so against their will?
