Minister: Cultural fears will not stop our FGM fight
by Anna Davis
Home Office minister Norman Baker today said he will not allow "political sensitivities" to get in the way of stamping out female genital mutilation.
Mr Baker was speaking after meeting campaigner Leyla Hussein, whose work he read about in the Evening Standard.
Ms Hussein, a survivor of FGM, conducted an experiment into political correctness by asking people to sign a fake petition in favour of allowing girls to be mutilated for "cultural reasons." She was shocked when shoppers signed the petition agreeing that she should be allowed to protect her "culture".
