Islamville: Recent Recordings of Gunfire at Radical Enclave
The Clarion Project has received recordings of gunfire coming from the property of "Holy Islamville," a 36-acre commune in York, South Carolina, on March 15 and July 3, with additional gunfire reported on June 5. The site is run by a radical group named Muslims of the Americas (MOA) that follows a radical cleric in Pakistan named Sheikh Mubarak Ali Gilani.
Islamville's website says it was founded in 1983 by Gilani and is home to "the very first Islamic shrine in America," Baitun-Noor Holy Khanaqah, "one of the holiest shrines in the world."
The Department of Homeland Security says it is linked to Jamaat ul-Fuqra, a Pakistani militant group also led by Gilani. The State Department describes ul-Fuqra as "an Islamic sect that seeks to purify Islam through violence."
