After Pressure From CAIR, the Associated Press Revises the Term 'Islamist'

Two days after the Associated Press announced it was nixing "illegal immigrant" from its influential stylebook, it's also revising the meaning of the term "Islamist."
The AP made the change Thursday after a The AP made the change Thursday after a push by the Council on American-Islamic Relations, which said the term "has become shorthand for 'Muslims we don't like'" and "is currently used in an almost exclusively pejorative context."
The AP only added "Islamist" to its stylebook last year, defined then as a "supporter of government in accord with the laws of Islam. Those who view the Quran as a political model encompass a wide range of Muslims, from mainstream politicians to militants known as jihadi."
