Vancouver Muslim leader joins Tutu in calling for Bush-Blair war crimes trial
by Douglas Todd
The director of the Vancouver Muslim Community Centre joins South African Anglican Bishop Desmond Tutu in calling for George Bush and Tony Blair to go before a war-crimes tribunal in the Netherlands.
"I would like to see that. I certainly think the whole attack on Iraq was unjustified," Luay Kawasme told me after about 350 Muslims met for weekly prayers in the Alice MacKay room of the main Vancouver Public Library.
"The people who have suffered the most have been the civilians," said Kawasme, a computer programmer who refers to himself as a Canadian-Palestinian-Jordanian. He organizes the Friday afternoon prayer sessions for Muslims, mostly men, who work in downtown Vancouver.
