Britain's highest-ranking Asian police officer has rejected a six-figure payout to settle his race discrimination case, it emerged yesterday.

Assistant Commissioner Tarique Ghaffur, 50, is claiming £1.2million from the Metropolitan Police.

But he reportedly turned down an offer because it would force him to declare that former Met chief Sir Ian Blair was not racist.

Mr Ghaffur was suspended from his £180,000-a-year job and put on gardening leave last month after accusing Sir Ian of racism in his employment tribunal claim.
